Google map +Oziexplorer

Caching images for use offline
This chapter describes how to use the program Google Earth Voyager (v.5 ) to create a complete image cache for a certain interest area, which you can then use offline and copy to other computers.
1 Copy the folder Google Earth Voyager from the Setup files folder to any location on your hard disk.
2 Make sure you are connected to the internet and start Google Earth (if it is not already running).
3 In the Places panel right-click on My Places and choose Add > Network Link… .
4 Name it “GEV” and click Browse… to locate the file GEVdata.KML, which you copied to your hard disk in step 1.
5 Click on the Refresh tab, check Fly to View on Refresh and set the Time-Based Refresh to Periodically and 5 secs.
The number of seconds should be at least as large as the time it takes to download one maximum resolution image with your current connection speed. Determining this number is a trial-and-error process. If you have a really fast connection start with 5 seconds. If your connection is slower, the time can be 10 seconds up to perhaps 1 minute. You will see whether the image is completely downloaded within the set time by watching the Streaming indicator while Google Earth Voyager is running.
6 Click OK to confirm the settings of the GEV Network Link. You will notice that the viewer will zoom in to a blurry location.
7 Uncheck the GEV layer you just made in the Places panel. (It should be found under My Places.)
8 Now browse to the area that you want to cache. Zoom in to such an extent that you can just see the whole area in the viewer window.
9 You can only cache a rectangular area. Point at the upper left corner of the (imaginary) rectangle that bounds your interest area. Note down the coordinates (should be in lat/lon decimal degrees).
Nechisar Example: 6.0966
10 Enable the Ruler tool from the toolbar and measure the distance from the upper left corner to both the eastern and the southern boundary of the (rectangular) interest area. Note down these distances (in km).
Nechisar Example: 37.5272
11 Run Google Earth Voyager by opening GEVoyager.exe from the location on your hard disk.
12 On the Area tab, put in the values that you collected in step 9 and 10.
13 In the Snapshots section, enter:
· Snapshots Width: 0.5 km
· Snapshots Height: 0.35 km
· Zoom to Altitude: 500 m
The given snapshot width and height values should do in most cases. They depend on your screen size and on the altitude you want to zoom in to. You can determine the ideal values by switching off the Terrain layer, zooming in to the desired altitude and using the Ruler tool to measure the width and height of the image covered in your screen.
500 m (with Terrain layer off) is approximately the altitude you want to zoom in to if detailed images are available, like in most of the Nechisar NP area. If the images are of a lower resolution, like the most eastern part of Nechisar, 10 km altitude is sufficient to capture all the available detail.
14 In the Refresh Every box, enter the exact same number of seconds as chosen in step 5.
15 Go back to Google Earth and enable the GEV network link by checking its box in the Places panel.
16 Go back to Google Earth Voyager and click the Start Voyage button. The Google Earth viewer should now automatically zoom in on the upper left corner of the interest area (the starting point of the cache process). It will fly from snapshot to snapshot at the given refresh rate.
If you notice from the Streaming indicator that the image is not completely downloaded (100%) before the viewer flies to the next shapshot, stop the process by clicking the Stop button in Google Earth Voyager. Go back to step 5 and adjust the number of seconds to a more likely value. Also repeat step 6, 7 and 14!
17 When you found the right refresh rate, let Google Earth Voyager finish the caching process. It shows a progress indicator in the bottom of its screen and will notify you when the process is finished.
18 When finished, click on GE Cache in the Google Earth Voyager menu bar to locate the created cache files.
19 Copy the files dbCache.dat and dbCache.dat.index to a new folder on your hard disk and give this folder a descriptive name. You can now share this folder (or the containing two files) with other Google Earth users by copying it to their computers, or use it as your own cache back-up.
20 To use the cache on another computer, copy the two files to the proper location on the other user’s computer by overwriting the existing cache files (first shut down Google Earth if it is running and copy the existing cache files to some other location if you wish to save them). Note that this other user should have already gone through the steps described in Chapter 2!
· Regular cache location on Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\(Your User Name)\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\GoogleEarth
· Regular cache location on Windows Vista:
C:\Users\(Your User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Google\GoogleEarth
21 The next time Google Earth is started it will use the newly made/copied cache files when you browse the cached area, either online or offline.

A+
