The Quaife hase a life garanty. I never had problems with this piece. I had explosed axle joints, and other pieces of the transmission but the Quaife resists very well.

The Quaife is like a Torsen. It's not a standard limited slip differential, it will distribute the traction force on the well witch has the bigest grip.

It is a copy of Quaife. It seems the Quaife patent has expired, and OBX had made almost exact copy ot it. It is manufactured for R200 rear of several NISSAN cars, like 240SX 300Z Silvia S13/S14 and so on. Exactly the models Quaife QDF7L is made for. It is 3 times cheaper than Quaife, but I doubt that the quality is same as Quaife. However, I did not found any complaints in the internet about this exact model.

My other concern is that locking nut for thorter flange, especially will I be able to put it in the carrier, no matter Quaife or OBX.

The local bulgarian tunning shop is selling these for 390EUR. I still don't know if they are in stock, or not. This is less than half price of the Quaife QDF7L with shipping and VAT included.

OBX is tunning company in the USA.

PP: By the way, there is also OBX model for R180 rear, used on Subaru, but I don't know if it will fit in front R180A of the terrano 2.

115mm ID ring gear, 27 spline shaft holes.
So it will fit the Datsun Z car housing with 77 & later gears,
but you would have to make up custom half shafts
(with the Subi splines)

Yes, exactly!!! It seems it will fit T2 R180A straight in. 27 splines - just what is needed.

+subarus are pretty popular. it might be other options for their differentials.

We should verify if this material has the same dimensions as the original differential in the R180A from Nissan. Are the bearing diameter the same ? Is the hole for the bolt of the mounting from the short flange the same ? Are the holes for the crown on the good diameter ? When I am right, I think this differential is on the rear axel of the Subaru Is this differential working when installed on front axel. I mean, the differential is working in the opposit rotation way when installed on front axel.

If this all points are good, this differential should be a good alternative for the Nissan differential.

In fact I don't see any reason for it to not work in the opposite direction. You only need to swap the helical gears inside it. On the OBX unit this can be easily done. As for the Quaife or Subaru unit - I don't know.

...but still, it works in both directions anyway. The only difference is to which direction the helical satelite gears are pushed when moving forward. These need to be pushed outwards (to the sides), instead of inwards, in order for the preload spring shims in the center of it to live longer. This is also right for the OBX unit. I don't know if it counts for the other units.


...at least this is what I have came to, browsing the internet. I don't know if I am 100% right.

It would be good if someone can answer these questions, especially the one about the torque. In fact I think we shouldn't worry about the torque. If an 180mm differential are mounted somewhere, the dimension itself speaks enough for it's ability to take enough torque.

Thank You Skalraf for those links. I have seen all this links at the time when I search my LSD.

Oups. Mais Skalraf, il comprend le français.! Je disais donc, j'avais lu tous ces posts lors de ma recherche de ma solution pour le LSD à l'avant. Malheureusement tous ces posts ne parlent que des LSD Quaife ou Torsen ou encore des LSD avec le même principe que le glissement du pont arrière du T2.

Rien sur le LSD OBX. Il faut que je retrouve le lien vers le forum Datsun. Eux doivent avoir certainement plus de retour sur ce matériel. Je vais essayer de retrouver le forum et poser la question sur le matériel OBX.
